The Delhi Police’s Crime Branch on Saturday arrested actor-activist Deep Sidhu in connection with his involvement in the violence at the Red Fort during the farmers’ tractor rally on Republic Day, news agency ANI reported. He was granted bail by a Delhi court earlier today.

Additional Sessions Judge Neelofer Abida Perveen on Friday set the bail on a personal bond of Rs 30,000 and two sureties of a like amount, PTI reported. 

Sidhu was arrested on February 9 in connection with the violence that broke out at the Red Fort during the farmers’ tractor rally against the three central agricultural laws. 

The court denied a police plea for extending Sidhu’s incarceration, which it sought on the grounds of voice sampling, saying that Sidhu was in custody since February 9, including 14 days of remand in police custody.

The judge also directed Sidhu to submit his passport with the investigating officer and appear before the court and the police station as and when required. 

On January 26, clashes broke out between thousands of protesting farmers and the police in Delhi’s ITO area, with a large contingent of farmers entering the Red Fort and hoisting religious flags on its ramparts.
