Forest staff and field researchers put their lives at risk in Gujarat’s Gir Forest to rescue a lion cub, who was caught in a net. The incident captured in a video shows how the forest officials put their lives at risk in an attempt to release the cub, who was entangled in the net. The incident happened in Greater Gir’s Rajula.
The two-minute-long video, which was tweeted by IFS officer Ramesh Pandey, showed the forest officers using their bare hands and stick to get a hold of the cub.

The video shows four-five men working towards saving the lion cub as they risked their lives by getting closer to the aggressive cub in order to disentangle it from the net, while its mother, the lioness was sitting nearby. The forest guards rushed to the spot after they heard a loud roar and found a lion cub entangled in the net, while the lioness and other cubs were sitting nearby, the tweet by the IFS (Indian Forest Officer) read.

“Forest staffs and field researchers in Rajula, Greater Gir (Gujrat) heard a roar and found a lion cub trapped in net. Lioness with other cubs was sitting nearby. To avoid strangulation of cub they put their lives at risk and freed the cub. Salute to our green guards,” Pandey wrote, with the video in the tweet.
The video has since been viewed over 38,000 times as netizens lauded the forest officials for putting their lives at risk, while some questioned how did the cub got trapped in a net.
