Kolkata Knight
Riders’ seven-run loss against the Rajasthan Royals in a high-scoring match on
Monday really did take a lot out of captain Shreyas Iyer. Never known as someone
with a temper, Iyer lost his cool twice in course of the match – once on the
field and another time off the field.

The Rajasthan
Royals had set a solid target of 217 runs in their 20 overs. On the penultimate
ball of the 16th over, Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer were on the
crease. Venkatesh Iyer hit the ball to deep point and ran for a single.

Captain Shreyas Iyer
saw the opportunity for a second-run and called. While Venkatesh did respond to
the call, while Shreyas was halfway down the crease, he made the captain go
back.

The Kolkata Knight
Riders’ skipper was positively enraged and gave his colleague a piece of his mind
right there on the crease. The angry exchange between two teammates did leave a
bad taste in the mouth for enthusiasts of the sport.

However, Iyer’s
anger was yet to abet. According to a video circulating on social media,
uploaded by a fan, Iyer was seen upset in course of what seems like an argument
between him and KKR head coach and former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum.

The video shows
the KKR skipper complaining to the head coach about something while he held his
bat and helmet in his hands. They seemed to be talking about something underway
on the field.

McCullum, however,
had nothing to say.

Rajasthan Royals’
massive 217 was enabled by a suave century by Jos Buttler. This was the English
cricketer’s second century of this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL). KKR’s bowling
faltered, but the batting line up came out strong and set to make the chase.

While KKR lost one
early wicket, Shreyas Iyer and Aaron Finch looked set and very capable of
chasing the target. Even after Finch was dismissed, Iyer was looked in control.
But leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal turned the match for Rajasthan Royals in the
very last over. Chahal picked up four wickets in the first four balls of the final
over, winning Rajasthan the match.
