The Haryana-born leg spinner was named the Player of the Match for his five for 40 in four overs.

“I had to take wickets in this match to change the result. I worked on my bowling. I spoke to the coaches and the skipper. I was thinking of a googly but then I didn’t want to take a chance. Would have been a happy with a dot ball as well on my hat-trick ball. My googly was coming out well and sent it down to Venkatesh Iyer,” he said at the post-match presentation.

Chahal had come close to picking up a hat-trick in the match against the Mumbai Indians. After picking up two continuous wickets, Chahal induced an edge on the third ball but Karun Nair dropped it at the slip.

The spinner is currently the highest wicket-taker in this season of IPL so far with 17 wickets in six games at an average of 10.35.
