Living the life of a superstar comes with its own hardships,
especially if you are the ‘Bhaijaan’ of Bollywood. Salman Khan’s life is quite
similar to living inside the ‘Bigg Boss’ House, where controversies seem to
play hide and seek with you, and you are often the one to lose.

One of the biggest superstars of Bollywood, ‘Sallu bhai’ has
found himself stuck in the crosshairs of controversy more times than we can
count.  He steals the show with a
one-minute cameo – not just in a movie but also in real life, finding himself
at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Here are a few controversies revolving around Salman Khan:

1.
Black Buck Poaching case

During the shooting of one of his most
loved films ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’ in 1998, Salman Khan allegedly hunted two
endangered blackbucks in village Kankani in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. Poaching of
blackbucks is prohibited under the Wildlife Protection Act. On April 5, 2018,
he was sentenced to five years in jail, but was released on bail two days
later.

Salman Khan pled innocent to this charge,
saying that the blackbucks died of natural causes and he never shot them.
However, his memory is foggy whenever media inquired about the details of that
day.

2.
2002 Hit-and-run case

On September 28, 2002, Salman Khan was arrested as his Toyota
Land Cruiser ran over five people outside a bakery in Bandra, Mumbai, leaving
one dead and four injured. The actor was reportedly drunk. On July 24, 2013, he was charged on
various accounts including culpable homicide. The sessions court sentenced him
to five years imprisonment on May 6, 2015. A few months later in December 2015, Bombay High
Court acquitted him from all charges.

3.
The infamous trio- Salman Khan, Aishwarya Rai
and Vivek Oberoi

The Salman-Aishwarya episode made headlines
for months after she finally decided to end the relationship. However, things
got ugly as Khan reportedly kept banging the door of Rai Bachchan’s house one
night in November 2001, and the incident continued till 3 am. After her relationship
with Khan ended, she got closer to Vivek Oberoi, a move which was received
rather distastefully by Khan. He supposedly called and threatened Oberoi once. The
two actors still share a hostile relationship.

4.
 Rape
remark

Salman Khan found himself gripped in
another controversy during the promotions of his 2016 blockbuster ‘Sultan’.
When asked about his rigorous wrestling scenes during the shoot, he said he
‘felt like a raped woman’.  This comment
attracted a lot of traction from women rights activists as well as the general
public. ‘Sultan’ co-star Anushka Sharma called his remark ‘insensitive’. A PIL
was also filed in Gujarat High Court to suspend the screening of the film due
to his remarks. Khan, on the other hand, expressed his anguish on being misunderstood,
media reported.

5.
Statement on 26/11 attacks

While the 26/11 attacks stirred the entire
nation, Salman Khan’s statement to a Pakistani channel triggered another wave
of dispute. In the interview, he reportedly said that the 26/11 attacks were
exaggerated because the rich and the elite of Mumbai were targeted, and a
prominent 5-star hotel was struck. He further claimed that fingers should not
be pointed at Pakistan and the attack was a failure of Indian security forces.
His comments drew strong reactions from Shiv Sena and he apologised for his
statements.

He clarified that his words were being
twisted and he only meant that every life matters.
