The charge of the Labour department, which was held by Patil, is being given to Hasan Mushrif as an additional charge and state Excise Department will be looked after by Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, the CMO said.
Earlier in the day, Deshmukh tendered his resignation to Thackeray after the Bombay High Court directed the CBI to conduct a probe into corruptions allegations levelled against him. Deshmukh said that he does not find it morally correct to continue as the state home minister.
The Bombay High Court ordered the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to conduct a preliminary inquiry within 15 days into corruption allegations levelled by former Mumbai commissioner Param Bir Singh against him. Singh had submitted a PIL saying that Deshmukh had asked police officer Sachin Waze, who is now suspended, to collect Rs 100 crore from bars, hotels, and restaurants in Mumbai monthly.
