Heavyweight Derrick Lewis on Sunday tied with veteran Vitor Belfort for the record of most knockout wins in UFC history with 12 KO/TKO wins when he knocked out Curtis Blaydes in a major upset during the main event of UFC Vegas 19.
Although Blaydes, who was the favourite, started the fight strong in the first round, Lewis was able to sleep him with a vicious upper cut.
Lewis is now on a four-fight win streak and has also ended the same for Blaydes. Blaydes had earlier missed their first scheduled fight in November due to testing COVID-19 positive. With the win, Lewis will now be one of the top contenders for the title, held by Stipe Miocic.
MMA Fighting quoted him saying, ”
I heard Jon Jones was coming up . Makes no sense saying I’m going to fight for the title. I’m pretty sure [Israel Adesanya] is going to come up and fight at heavyweight. I guess [I’ll fight] Stipe [Miocic]. I like the wrestlers.”
