The 45th edition of the Toronto International Film Festival is being conducted in a mixed manner– both digitally and in physical form. However, the ongoing pandemic has toned down the glitz and glamour of North America’s largest film festival, with just  61 features, 36 shorts and another 30 films that will be restricted to the industry.

The pandemic has also prompted the organisers of the TIFF to invite fewer people to the event. This year, only 50 celebrities have been chosen as the festival’s ambassadors.

However, even with the toned-down celebrations, these Indians made it to one of the most acclaimed film festivals of the world.

Priyanka Chopra

Actor-producer Priyanka Chopra is one of the 50 people invited as a brand ambassador for the TIFF. She has been associated with the event for 11 years now.

Anurag Kashyap

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap was the only other Indian to be chosen as the brand ambassador at the TIFF. Anurag and Priyanka joined Taika Waititi, Martin Scorsese and Nicole Kidman among others.

Tabu

Indian actor Tabu was announced as one of the presenters for the Tribute Awards at the event. She will present the award on September 15.

Mira Nair

Mira Nair became one of the participants at the TIFF as her latest series, ‘A Suitable Boy’ was screened at the event on its first day.

Chaitanya Tamhane

Chaitanya Tamhane’s ‘The Disciple’ became the only Indian feature film to be screened at Toronto. The filmmaker has recently won the prestigious FIPRESCI award at the Venice Film Festival, and is eyeing for success at the TIFF too.
