French-Moroccan star midfielder Hugo Boumous will join ATK
Mohun Bagan in the upcoming India Super League (ISL), the Kolkata-based club
announced on Thursday. Boumous is likely to stay with the club for five years.

Boumous shined for Mumbai City FC when it won the title
last season scoring three goals and assisting seven.

“I know Kolkata as the Mecca of Indian football,” Boumous
said on Thursday,” adding: “I am happy to sign with the city’s traditional and
successful club, ATK Mohun Bagan. I have heard that the joy of playing in front
of millions of supporters of the Green-Maroon team in Yuba Bharati is different
and I shall play this time to win them.”

One of the finest players in the ISL, Boumous joined FC Goa
from Moroccan club Moghreb Athlétic de Tétouan in 2017–18 before joining Mumbai
for a reported Rs 1.76 crore.

Mohun Bagan approached the footballer for the first time in
April this year. However, only after an elongated period of negotiation, was
the transfer confirmed and the two clubs reached an agreement for an
undisclosed fee.

“I am always hungry to win the trophy. I have brought
success to the clubs that I have played in and I shall keep this in mind as I
play again. I will do my best to win,” the star midfielder said.

He added that it was industrialist Sanjiv Goenka that
inspired him to be in Kolkata.

Boumous has been one of the leading players of the league.
He was the Player of the League in the 2019–20 campaign after scoring 11 goals and
making 11 assists for FC Goa.

“Both scoring goals and helping to score goals are equally
rewarding. I get pleasure from both. The team’s victory is the main purpose and
that is not possible without goals,” said Boumous.

The next season of ISL is likely to begin from November.
