Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan on Thursday said that vaccination against COVID-19 will lead to the disease’s eradication in some time, adding that some people are spreading misinformation about the vaccines just for politics, reported PTI.

“The vaccination against COVID will create persons incapable of transmitting the disease and eradicate the disease altogether in some time,” Vardhan was quoted as saying in a statement issued by the health ministry.

Addressing the safety and efficacy of the vaccines, the health minister said, “The paradox is that countries across the globe are asking us for access to the vaccines, while a section of our own is fomenting misinformation and doubt for narrow political ends.”

Vardhan also requested everyone to counter the “vested campaigns of untruth and misinformation”.

“Let us put a stop to these falsehoods,” he said.

Vardhan appealed to people to seek correct information regarding the COVID-19 vaccines from credible and authentic sources including the health ministry, the information and broadcasting ministry, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) and the MyGov website, according to the statement.

More than 800,000 healthcare workers were vaccinated against COVID-19 in the country till 7 am on Thursday, according to the health ministry.

India’s total COVID-19 tally reached 10,610,883 on Thursday with 15,223 new infections recorded in the last 24 hours.
