Another story latching onto the ongoing protests around the national capital narrates the way a Jalandhar-based farmer turned his truck into a fully equipped makeshift home at the Singhu border. Harpreet Singh Mattu’s temporary home contains all basic amenities like a sofa, bed, TV and even a functional toilet along with mobile charging points, as reported by news agency ANI.

Narrating the story behind making the truck his home, Harpreet Singh Mattu told ANI that it was homesickness that formed the root of this idea. Mattu said he came to the Singhu border to participate in the protest and serve other farmers during his stay. Mattu has also opened a Sahib Riverside California Langar Sewa at Singhu border serving tea, snacks and food to the passer-by and farmers.

“I came here on December 2 at the behest of my elder brother who is based in the US. He asked me to serve the farmers. I left all my work and served for seven days at the Singhu border. Earlier five of my trucks came here and when I came back to my a hotel, where I was staying at that time, I felt homesick and then I thought why not turn a truck into a makeshift apartment,” Mattu told ANI.

“In my langar, tea is served round the clock, from morning till evening. Pinni, pakodas, almond langar is also served there,” he added.

Farmers have assembled at different borders of Delhi, opposing the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020. The protests have been going on for over a month and a seventh round of talks has been scheduled for January 4 at the Vigyan Bhawan.
