Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu‘s sister Suman Toor has alleged that Sidhu is a ‘cruel person’ who had abandoned his family after the death of his father.

The allegations come days ahead of the Punjab Assembly Elections 2022, slated to take place on February 20. Speaking at a press conference in Chandigarh on Friday, Toor claimed she had documents to prove the fact that Sidhu had been lying about his parents. 

“We have seen very tough times. My mother was in the hospital for four months. I have documentary evidences of whatever I am claiming,” Suman Toor reportedly said.

She added, “My father had left assets including a house [and] land besides pension. Navjot Singh Sidhu deserted my mother for the sake of money. We do not want any money from Sidhu.

Toor said that the Sidhu, one of the frontrunners for Congress’ Chief Ministerial face, had driven his sister and mother out of the house in 1986 to grab hold of the property. He cut all ties with his family after his father’s death. Three years later, their mother passed away at the Delhi railway station as a destitute, she alleged.

The 117-seat Punjab assembly elections will see polling take place in a single phase on February 20. The polls were earlier set for February 14 but were moved further in light of Guru Ravidas Jayanti. Votes will be counted and results declared on March 10. 

Sidhu is yet to respond to the accusations made by his sister.
