Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke extensively about India’s COVID-19 management at the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Davos Agenda on Monday, January 17.

“India is fighting another COVID-19 wave with full alertness and caution while maintaining economic growth,” he said in his address to the world leaders via video conferencing.

“Today, India is the 3rd largest pharma producer in the world. In the COVID times, we have seen how India following the vision of ‘One Earth, One Health’ is saving crores of lives by giving essential medicines and vaccines to many countries”, he said, highlighting India’s role as a major pharmaceutical hub.

He termed India’s contribution to the world as a ‘bouquet of hope’ consisting of ‘trust towards democracy, technology to empower 21st century and of talent’. 

Pointing towards the country’s achievements, PM Modi stated, “India is celebrating its 75th year of Independence and also the administration of 156 crore vaccine doses in the country.”

Apart from India’s fight against the pandemic, he also hailed the country’s “entrepreneurship spirit” and said this is the “best time to invest in India”. “The entrepreneurship spirit that Indians have, the ability to adopt new technology, can give new energy to each of our global partners,” he said.

PM Modi added that India is focused on reforms in the right way, moving away from the earlier ‘license raj’ to promote ease of doing business and reducing the government involvement in businesses. 

The World Economic Forum event will be held from January 17 to 21 and include addresses from various world leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, via video conferencing.
