PlayStation, Fortnite are among other major gaming services that experienced network difficulties on Thursday evening. The services are reportedly back after a brief sudden mass outage.
PSN, according to reports, was one of the several online gaming services that experienced network issues. According to Down Detector website, the problems spiked for PSN, Fortnite, and Steam around 21:45 IST. The reason for the outage was due to network disruption at Akamai Technologies.
Both Steam and PlayStation Network, according to the tech website IGN, were also down. On PS5, a message read: “Services are busy right now. We’ll be back soon.”
Fortnite and Warframe (which also experienced difficulties) confirmed in a statement that they also experienced network issues.
“Fortnite is currently impacted by a broader internet issue affecting a range of online services. We’ll provide an update when players are able to jump in as normal,” Fortnite tweeted.
“Heads up, Tenno! We are aware of server connectivity issues, and are actively working on a solution. Thank you for your patience!” Warframe tweeted.
However, minutes later they were up and running.
The official PlayStation and Steam support channels were giving the latest updates on the matter.
Meanwhile, Akamai that is believed to be the reason behind the service disruption tweeted announcing the outage.
“Akamai is experiencing a service disruption. We are actively investigating the issue and will provide an update in 30 minutes,” the company tweeted.
“We have implemented a fix for this issue, and based on current observations, the service is resuming normal operations. We will continue to monitor to ensure that the impact has been fully mitigated,” the tweet further said.
Reportedly, this is the second Akamai outage in as many months. It faced service disruptions with its hosting platform last month as the content delivery network provider faced problems.
Last month, it was caused by an issue with the Fastly CDN, whose clients included popular websites. Later, the company had mentioned that the outage was caused after one of its customers changed settings.
According to Internet outage tracker DownDetector, the outage reportedly started around 8.55pm on Thursday evening.
Before this in August, a big outage involving Google happened. It caused Gmail, Google Docs and other Google services to stop working.
