Due to the lockdown situation in several states in India, people haven’t been able to go to the salon to fix their faded hair colour. Coloring the hair
is one of the most daunting tasks that people are attempting at home during a pandemic.

Here are some easy steps
you can undertake to protect your dyed hair:

Shampoo sparingly: It is important to invest in a shampoo and conditioner treatment that’s
designed specifically for color-treated hair. They’re much gentler than
typical shampoos without harsh ingredients and detergents. It’s important to
understand that all hair color will fade eventually; however, a color-safe shampoo can
slow down the process. You should wash your hair only when it is greasy and
dirty. When you overwash your hair, the color will fade

Condition regularly:  Conditioning after you shampoo is essential to
having healthy, shiny hair. Conditioner smoothens the hair cuticle
and adds body. Avoiding conditioner makes your hair more
prone to breakage, which can lead to the appearance of thinning hair. Avoid
conditioners that use any kind of sulfates, as they have a drying effect that
can fade the color at an accelerated pace.

Style protectively:  Dyed hair is more likely to damage, so avoid
using blow dryers, curling irons, or straightening irons as much as possible.
Whenever you can, let your color-treated hair dry naturally. If you are going
to use heat, after using your color-protecting shampoo and conditioner, apply a
heat-protecting styling product.

Use products with UV protection to protect your hair from the Sun:

Whatever the season, the sun’s rays can fade hair color. Try to avoid
long exposures to the sun. Many styling products, leave-in conditioners, and
hairsprays have SPF in them. Some UV-protecting products even contain a mix of
vitamins to help restore color-treated hair and prevent future damage.

Avoid Chlorine on Color-Treated Hair:

If you spend much time in a swimming pool, wet your dyed hair and apply a
protective leave-in conditioner before you get wet to help prevent the chlorine
from damaging your color because the chemicals in chlorine can build up and
cause hair color—especially lighter colors–to shift to an unattractive green
hue

Don’t Color Your Hair Too Frequently:

Coloring your hair too often can cause damage, so don’t color more than
once every five to six weeks.
