Indian actor Dia Mirza has been vocal about environmental protection time and again. While expressing her views on Earth Day, the 39-year-old said that we need to hold authorities such as government and industries accountable for the escalating climate crisis and ensure that steps are taken to improve the current situation. 

Mirza said that there should be a greater momentum now than ever before. “Working on personal fronts and changing our lifestyles to make the world more sustainable will definitely help but we also need to hold the government, civil society and industries accountable as well,” reports IANS. The actor is a United Nations Secretary-General Advocate for Sustainable Development Goals.

The actor urged everyone to raise their voices, adding that everyone should join the movement to protect the wildlife and nature and demand laws that will make sure that such goals are achieved.

Dia said, “we need every single earth citizen to work towards restoring the planet to its former glory. When political, business and environmental leaders work in synergy with people from all walks of life to protect the earth, a better world will come into being.”

On the ongoing coronavirus crisis, the actor added that, “the pandemic has taught us all a lot, that how we are interlinked to the environment.” The actor said that pandemic has showed us all that its high time that we should change our lifestyles.

Mirza said that everything is so closely related, the collective health and harmony of the current world hangs in balance with the well-being of our planet. 

Dia on Earth Day’s theme ‘Restore Our Earth’ said, “this year is a clarion call to restore the balance of the natural world on which all of life depends.”
