Chennai Super Kings seamer Deepak Chahar registered his best-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) spell to dismantle the Punjab Kings’ top-order at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday.
Chahar dismissed Mayank Agarwal, Chris Gayle, Nicholas Pooran and Deepak Hooda as Punjab were reeling at 26 for the loss of five in the seventh over of the innings.
The Agra-born pacer bowled the first wicket-maiden over of the season and recorded more dot balls (19) than runs conceded (13) in his four overs, finishing with figures of 4/13.

Chahar got CSK off to an ideal start, cleaning up Mayank Agarwal’s (0) stumps in the very first over of the innings. He then struck twice in his second over, first foxing Chris Gayle with a slower ball, which the Jamaican sliced for Ravindra Jadeja to take a brilliant diving catch at backward point.
He then dismissed his West Indies teammate Nicholas Pooran with a short ball, which was pulled straight to Shardul Thakur at fine leg.
Chahar bagged a fourth in his final over, which was the wicket-maiden, when Deepak Hooda chipped a fuller delivery straight to Faf du Plessis at mid-off.

Punjab, who scored 221 runs at the same venue in the last outing against the Rajasthan Royals on Monday, were restricted for a meager 106 for the loss of eight wickets.
Moeen Ali, Sam Curran and Dwayne Bravo also bagged a wicket each, while Ravindra Jadeja, who came up with exceptional display in the field, ran Punjab skipper KL Rahul out.
