The Delhi Police
on Sunday arrested a man accused of creating mobile application ‘Sulli Deals’ from Indore, Madhya Pradesh. This is the first arrest made in the
“Sulli Deals” app case, Delhi Police said.

Mobile applications ‘Sulli Deals’ and ‘Bulli Bai’, which was created recently, allegedly uploaded morphed photographs of Muslim women and derogatory remarks were
passed against them. Both the apps used the hosting platform ‘GitHub’ to
auction the Muslim women without their consent.

The accused named Aumkareshwar Thakur was arrested by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic
Operations (IFSO) of Delhi Police in Indore, Madhya Pradesh.

Hundreds of Muslim
women were listed for “auction” on the mobile application in the past one and a
half years. The accused Aumkareshwar Thakur (26) did his BCA from IPS Academy
in Indore and is a resident of Newyork City Township, the police said.

“Om Thakur
has been arrested from Indore. He is the main mastermind behind the Sulli deal
app case,” said KPS Malhotra, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence
Fusion and Strategic Operations Unit, Delhi Police Special Cell.

Trolling Muslim
women was the main objective

Deputy Commissioner
of Police (IFSO) KPS Malhotra also said during preliminary interrogation, the
accused admitted that he was a member of a group on Twitter and the idea to
defame and troll Muslim women was shared there. 
“He had developed the code on GitHub. The access of GitHub was with
all the members of the group. He had shared the app on his Twitter account. The
photos of the Muslim women were uploaded by the group members,” the
officer said.

In January 2020,
Thakur had joined a group called ‘Trade Mahasabha’. The group members would often discuss how to troll Muslim women on Twitter,
police said. After the application ‘Sulli Deals’ was created, the members of
this Twitter group allegedly uploaded photographs of several Muslim women, including
famous personalities.

Thakur had
deleted all his social media accounts after ‘Sulli Deals’ and ‘Bulli Bai’ apps have made the headlines recently for their objectionable activities.
