Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday spoke to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and Puducherry CM V Narayanasamy over the situation in the wake of Cyclone Nivar.
“Assured all possible support from the Centre,” he tweeted.
“I pray for the safety and well-being of those living in the affected areas,” the PM added.
Cyclone Nivar is expected to intensify and make landfall on the afternoon of November 25. Meanwhile, rain lashed parts of Chennai on Tuesday, ANI reported.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday said that cyclone will affect Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry between November 24 and 26.
“The Depression over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal about 600 km south-southeast of Puducherry and 630 km south-southeast of Chennai. It is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during next 24 hours,” IMD said in a tweet on Monday.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has earmarked 30 teams to launch rescue and relief operations for the two states and the union territory, in view of the cyclone ‘Nivar’.
