Mika Singh is an Indian singer, rapper and performer. His song ‘Sawan Mein Lag Gayi Aag’ was remixed by US-based singer Pinky Paras. The singer reportedly chose Akanksha Puri as his wife on the reality show ‘Swayamvar: Mika Di Vohti’.

Mika was born on 10 June 1977 as Amrik Singh in Durgapur, West Bengal. He is the youngest among six brothers. Mika Singh and his elder brother, Daler Mehndi were inspired by their father Ajmer Singh. Ajmer Singh was a trained classical musician who used to sing ‘kirtans’ in Patna Sahib Gurudwara. 

Mika started learning tabla at the age of eight. He learnt harmonium at the age of 12 and started taking guitar lessons after two years. Initially, he wanted to become a music director. Mika started his career as a ‘kirtan’ singer.

Mika dedicated a self-composed song, Vande Mataram to Mother India at an exclusive show for the Indian Army. The singer has an NGO named Divine Touch, inspired by his mother who wanted him to help others. 

He has sung famous Bollywood songs including ‘Mauja Hi Mauja’, ‘Singh Is King’, ‘Jugni’, and ‘Gandi Baat’. He has sung songs in Punjabi, Marathi, Kannada, and Telugu. He is the first singer to have lent his voice to five actors in a song.

Mika has also starred in Punjabi movies including, ‘Mitti’, ‘Wrath Kapoor’, ‘Loot’ and ‘Balwinder Singh Famous Ho Gaya’. 

His entry into Punjab University has been banned since 2009 after he passed comments at a girl during his show at the campus fest. Mika Singh mentioned in an interview that he could have sung the ‘Channa Mereya’ song better than Arijit Singh. 

Mika performed live in Bollywood Showstoppers in a sold-out O2 Arena (Where? London) with Arjun Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Jacqueline Fernandez, Shahid Kapoor, and Ali Zafar in 2014. In 2016 he performed at his biggest outdoor concert at Danny Singh’s Sandwell & Birmingham Mela with an audience of 80,000 in Birmingham, UK.
