Las Vegas Raiders are set to wear their 1970 (away) throwback jersey against the Los Angeles Rams at the Sofi Stadium on Thursday. This will be the Silver and Black’s first regular-season visit to face the Rams (3-9) since the latter’s Los Angeles homecoming in 2016.

Raiders decided to go for the color rush uniforms for the game. Black home jersey has been consistent for Las Vegas for a few years. Their 1970 look, a one-year style, consisted of a white jersey with silver numbers edged in black. It was accompanied by a classic silver helmet and silver pants. The nameplates were sewn in a serif font.

In 1970, the team achieved the then-greatest turnaround in league history, improving from 1-13 to 10-4 in one season. The silver and white jerseys, which were quite a hit with the fans, were changed to accommodate visibility for the television broadcasts, which became a phenomenon for NFL games in the 1970s.

However, the colours carry a lot of history for the Raiders as it featured in their first AFC Championship game in which they lost 27-17 to the eventual Super Bowl V champions Baltimore Colts.

In spite of the stunning colours, the silver and white colour rush jersey is associated with Raider’s away games and the fact that they decided to wear it in a home game did not make sense to a lot of people on social media.

“White at home? NFL didn’t want to pay for home jerseys? That’s weak but par for the course,” one user on Twitter wrote. Another user suggested that it should have been all black.

The Raiders have won three-straight games this season. They have defeated AFC West rivals, the Denver Broncos as well as the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2022 season.
