The Steelers had announced that they would retire Harris’ number 32 jersey on the 50th anniversary in Harris’ honor. However, Harris’ death led to a drastic change in their plans.
Due to Harris’s recent social media activity and his day-before-death interactions with visitors at the Heinz History Center, which included a live interview with KDKA-TV from the Heinz History Center, his death was regarded as unexpected.
