Al Brown, an air force veteran who broke into acting and featured in all the seasons of the HBO series The Wire died on Friday. He was 83 years old. His daughter Jenny confirmed his death to TMZ on Sunday. The actor was suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and died at his home in Las Vegas.

Brown joined the air force at 29 and served in the Vietnam war. According to TMZ, he went on two tours to the South East Asian country during his time in the force. He became an actor in the 1990s and featured in many movies alongside playing Colonel Stan Valchek in the HBO series The Wire.

Some of the other prominent movies he acted in are Commander in Chief (2005), Doung Day, and Farcopter (2014). In many of his roles, Brown appeared as a hard-boiled police officer or someone in law enforcement, and due to his previous association with the army, he suited the roles very well.
In HBO’s The Wire, Colonel Stanley Valchek was a corrupt police officer. He gained a lot of critical acclaim for portraying the role.
According to TMZ, Brown is survived by his daughter Jenny and other loved ones. Her daughter Jenny was by his side at his home in Las Vegas when he died. Apart from Jenny, he is survived by his other loved ones. More details about his family are not available.
