Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar is set to make his county debut for Lancashire against Northamptonshire on Tuesday.

Sundar will make his red-ball debut after suffering a finger injury in July of last year. He missed India’s tour of England last year as well as the second leg of the 2021 Indian Premier League due to injury.

In an official statement, Lancashire cricket said- “The 22-year-old all-rounder, who bowls off-spin, will also be available for the whole Royal London One-Day Cup competition, which begins on August 2.”

In an interview with Lancashire’s official YouTube channel, the all-rounder revealed that as a child, he used to pretend to be Freddie Flintoff while playing for Lancashire on PlayStation.

He stated- “I remember myself playing Playstation with Lancashire team against most of the domestic games over here. I used to be Andrew Flintoff because he would give me four overs of solid pace, and obviously he could come down at six or seven and will tink some huge sixes.

Washington expressed excitement about playing at the spin-friendly Emirates Old Trafford and trying his hand at county cricket during the interview.

Washington made his T20I debut for India in 2017 at the age 18,  Since then, he has made 31 appearances in the shortest format for his nation, taking 25 wickets.

Washington also played for India in four One Day Internationals and four Test matches, including the most recent victory over England in a home Test series in early 2021.

Washington Sundar was regarded as more of a white-ball specialist when he made his India debut because of his capacity to bowl precise lines and lengths during the powerplay.

He did, however, make his Test debut in 2021 and contributed a few significant batsmanship runs to India’s historic Border-Gavaskar Trophy victory over Australia at the Gabba.
