The given image is of a water sport called paddleboarding or standup paddleboarding. It was actually surfing that gave birth to standup paddleboarding (SUP), which has its modern roots in Hawaii. Stand-up paddleboarders use a paddle to move through the water while standing on boards that are floating in it. Flat water paddling, racing, surfing, whitewater SUP, yoga, and fishing are some of the many variations of this sport.
According to theinertia.com, a website that talks about surfing and other outdoor activities; modern standup paddleboarding began in the 1940s in Waikiki. Local Hawaiian surfer John Ah Choy would stand on his board from the break and paddle out with a canoe paddle to catch waves as he became older and was unable to get up and down off his board.
While instructing visitors in surfing, his sons Leroy and Bobby Ah Choy and their friend Duke Kahanamoku began to imitate this. They did this to keep an eye on surf students and to track the approaching surge. The instructors, known as Waikiki Beach Boys, gave the technique the name Beach Boy Surfing as it gained popularity among other surfers.
The watersport can also be added to the list of games in the Olympics. The International Canoe Federation or the International Surfing Association will be in charge of representing paddleboarding if it is admitted to the Olympic Games, according to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
