Gold prices were stable on Friday but looked set for a
fifth straight weekly loss. Although the greenback’s strong performance overall
and concerns over aggressive US interest rate hikes weighed on demand for
bullion, The dollar edged off recent 20-year highs, lowering some pressure on
demand for greenback-priced gold among overseas investors, after sending bullion
over 2% down on Thursday. Higher interest rate and bond yields increase the
opportunity cost of holding non-yielding bullion.
