Indian equity benchmarks were trading slightly lower in Thursday’s afternoon session following global peers. Depreciating the Indian rupee impacted sentiments negatively. The market also noted a report by the commerce ministry stating that India’s exports to the UAE rose by 17.6% to about $18 billion during the second quarter of this fiscal after a free trade agreement was implemented on May 1.

The Sensex was trading at 61,931.42 down by 49.30 points or 0.08% after trading in a high-low range of 62,050.80 and 61,768.96. On the index, only 10 stocks were advancing against 20 declining.

The broader indices were trading mostly red with the BSE Midcap index down by 0.37% and the Small-cap index down by 0.26%.

The top losing sectoral indices on the BSE were Consumer Durables down 1.36%, Auto 0.90%, IT 0.74%, Metal 0.70%, and Consumer Discretionary 0.68%. While Capital Goods up by 1.31%, Industrials 0.75%, Telecommunication 0.36%, Services 0.35%, and FMCG  0.08% were the only gaining sectoral index on the BSE.

The top losers on the Sensex were Titan Company down by 1.98%, Tech Mahindra 1.33%, Dr. Reddy’s Lab 1.29%, Mahindra & Mahindra 1.25%, and Maruti Suzuki 1.17%. On the flip side, Larsen & Toubro up by 2.31%,  ICICI Bank 0.76%, Bajaj Finance 0.66%, Reliance Industries 0.61%, and  ITC 0.55% were the top gainers on the index.

The Nifty was trading at 18,367.15 down by 42.50 points or 0.23% after trading in a high-low range of 18,417.60 and 18,350.30. On the index, only 17 stocks were advancing, against 33 stocks declining.

The top losers on Nifty were Titan Company down 2.00%,  Apollo Hospital Enterprises 1.87%,  Hindalco 1.87%, Tata Motors 1.83 and Tech Mahindra 1.64%. While Larsen & Toubro up 2.21%,  Tata Consumer Products 1.94%, HDFC Life Insurance 1.26%, UPL 0.90%, and ICICI Bank 0.65% were the top gainers on the index.

Asian markets were trading mostly lower, Nikkei 225 fell 0.35%, Shanghai Composite fell 0.15%, KOSPI Composite fell 1.10%, and Hang Sang slipped 1.39%.
