Indian equity benchmarks were trading higher in Thursday’s afternoon session.  Global markets were trading mixed amid rising crude prices were impacting sentiments. Sentiments were supported by the Indian rupee appreciating 67 paise to 82.14 against the dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on increased selling of the US dollar by exporters and banks. Most sectoral indices on the BSE were trading in positive topped by Metal, Consumer Durables, Bankex, Capital Goods and Oil & Gas.

The Sensex was trading at 59,691.98, up by 148.02 points or 0.25% after trading in a high-low range of 59,959.94 and 59,678.29. On the index, 20 stocks were advancing, 9 were declining and 1 stock remained unchanged.

The broader indices were trading green with the BSE Midcap index up by 0.32% and the Small-cap index up by 0.25%.

The top gaining sectoral indices on the BSE were Metal up by 2.70%, Consumer Durables up by 0.58%, Bankex up by 0.35%, Capital Goods up by 0.45%, Oil & Gas up by 0.63%, while IT down by 0.46%, TECK down by 0.01% were the only losing sectoral indices on the BSE.

The top gainers on the Sensex were Tata Steel by 2.87%, Bharti Airtel by 2.27%, Sun Pharma Industries by 1.65%, Power Grid Corp by 1.37% and Mahindra & Mahindra by 1.35%. On the flip side, Bajaj Finance by 1.49%,  Asian Paints by 1.30%, Bajaj Finserv by 1.27%, Nestle by 1.17%, and Tech Mahindra by 1.02%, were the top losers on the index.

The Nifty was trading at 17,711.95 up by 55.60 points or 0.31% after trading in a high-low range of 17,783.90 and 17,704.40. On the index, 35 stocks were advancing, against 15 stocks declining.

The top gainers on Nifty were JSW Steel up by 4.47%,  Hindalco up by 3.45%, Tata Steel up by 2.77%, Bharti Airtel up by 2.22% and Sun Pharma Industries Limited up by 1.51%. While Bajaj Finance by 1.53%,  Bajaj Finserv by 1.31%,  Asian Paints by 1.31%, Nestle by 1.15 and Tech Mahindra by 0.97% were the top losers on the index.

Asian markets were trading mixed, Nikkei 225 fell 0.32%, Shanghai Composite fell 0.29%, while KOSPI Composite rose 1.74%, while Hang Sang rose 1.15%.
