Indian equity indices rose in opening trade on Tuesday after sliding in the previous four sessions, as Asian markets recovered partially.

The Sensex rose 461.82 points to 57,607.04. The Nifty gained 144.15 points to 17,160.45.

Among the 30-share Sensex group, ITC, Power Grid, Hindustan Unilever, Infosys, Wipro, ICICI Bank, Nestle, and NTPC were early gainers. Maruti, Titan, Tata Steel, Reliance Industries and Kotak Mahindra Bank were laggards.

Asian markets are trading mixed with Straits Times falling 17.15 points or 0.54% to 3,164.82, Hang Seng slumped 178.12 points or 1.00% to 17,677.02, KOSPI lost 15.56 points or 0.70% to 2,205.38 and Jakarta Composite was down by 45.04 points or 0.63% to 7,082.46. On the other hand, Nikkei 225 climbed 165.80 points or 0.63% to 26,597.35, Taiwan Weighted added 16.58 points or 0.12% to 13,794.77 and Shanghai Composite was up by 7.98 points or 0.26% to 3,059.21.

The US markets ended in negative territory on Monday. The S&P 500 fell 38.19 points, or 1.03%, to 3,655.04. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 329.60 points, or 1.11%, to 29,260.81. The Nasdaq composite fell 65.00 points, or 0.60%, to 10,802.92. The Russell 2000 index of smaller companies fell 23.71 points, or 1.41%, to 1,655.88.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) have sold shares worth a net Rs 5,101.30 crore, whereas domestic institutional investors (DIIs) purchased shares worth a net Rs 3,532.18 crore on September 26, as per provisional data available on the NSE.

Meanwhile, Brent crude, the international oil benchmark, rose 0.54% to USD 84.51 a barrel. The rupee rose 37 paise to 81.30 against the US dollar as the American currency fell from its peak level
