Lane Bess, a
venture capitalist, will be flying to space along with his son Cameron in Jeff
Bezos
’-owned Blue Origin’s upcoming spaceflight in December. Lane Bess and Cameron
will be the first parent-child pair to ever fly to space together, Blue Origin
said in a statement.

The spaceflight
Lane Bess will take will also carry Michael Strahan, host of popular US
television show “Good Morning America” and Laura Shephard Churchley, the
daughter of Alan Shapard, the first American to fly to space. Investor Evan
Dick and Voyager Space CEO Dylan Taylor will also be among those onboard.

This will be the
first time that the Blue Origin spaceflight will carry six astronauts to space
together, operating at full capacity. This will also be the rocket’s third crewed
spaceflight.

According to Lane
Bess’ LinkedIn profile, Bess is the principal and founder of Bess Ventures and
Advisory. He has also served as the CEO of Zscaler Inc. Bess holds a BS Degree
in Managerial Economics from Carnegie Mellon University and a Masters degree
from University of Dayton.

Lane Bess has
spent more than 30 years as an operational executive and has successfully
launched several startups. His LinkedIn profile says that Lane Bess was CEO of
Palo Alto Networks where he led the late fundraising and scaled the company
from its early go-to-market, to a revenue run exceeding $200 million on the
path to its IPO.

On Tuesday, following
the announcement that he will be travelling to space, Lane Bess wrote on
LinkedIn that he is thrilled to be flying with Blue Origin to experience his
childhood dream of going to space. For him, it will also be an opportunity to
reconnect with his son to share an experience that “we will remember forever”.
