England beat visitors West Indies by 269 runs in the third and final test match of the Wisden Trophy at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

England took the three-match series 2-1 and regained the Wisden Trophy they lost in the Caribbean last year.

England paceman Stuart Broad became just the seventh bowler to take 500 Test wickets as West Indies collapsed at 129 while chasing a target of 399.

Batting first, England scored 369 in the first innings, with knocks from Ollie Pope and Jos Buttler. The pair had a 140 run partnership between them. Tail-ender Stuart Broad chipped in with a 45 ball 62 that enabled the home team to add pressure on the visitors.

Put in to bat in the second innings West Indies could only muster 197 with Stuart Broad scalping 6 wickets for England.

Having conceded a 172 run lead to England in the first innings, the visitors West Indies did not fare well in the third innings as English batsman Roy Burns and Dom Sibley took stumps. England scored 226 at the loss of two wickets in the third innings and placed a target of 399 before the visitors. Captain Joe Root scored a quickfire 68 from 56 balls and opener Burns was dismissed in the nervous nineties.

Chasing a total of 399, West Indies quickly rattled under pressure and the team collapsed for 129, with England pacer Stuart Broad claiming four wickets in the second innings.

Broad ended up with a ten-wicket haul in the match and hence was awarded the Man of the Match.
