Bartram Trail High School is under fire for digitally adding more clothes to cover up the exposed skin of girls in its yearbook. Over 80 female students said that their yearbook photo was altered without their consent, according to St Augustine Record’s report.

Journalist Mary Helen Moore uploaded the Photoshop edits that show before and after images. The school official attempted to cover up the girl’s chest and shoulders with Photoshop using colours or patterns resembling clothes of girl students.

Commenting on the school’s decision, a Twitter user said ,” I’m offended as a former high school girl AND as a competent Photoshop user”.

“There is something to be said for modesty, but not sure this is the way,” said another.

“I think it sends the message that our girls should be ashamed of their growing bodies, and I think that’s a horrible message to send out to these young girls that are going through these changes”, said a parent in an interview with the Record.

Parents fear that the school’s decision to cover up the body parts might make young girls feel ashamed of their naturally growing bodies.

According to the school’s spokeswoman, the edits were made by a teacher in an attempt to avoid the students from being left out of the yearbook due to her belief that they are in violation of the school’s dress code.
