School of
Artificial Intelligence (ScAI) at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi
has announced to start a new Post Graduate course named ‘MTech in Machine
Intelligence and Data Science (MINDS). According to officials, the new course
will begin in July 2022. Only those candidates will be eligible for the MINDS courses
that have undergraduate degrees in science or engineering.

MTech in
MINDS will be a leading education program designed to be an ‘industry-funded
program’, the institute said.

Students
enrolled in the program will be working on industry-related AI issues and will
be advised by an IIT Delhi professor and a researcher from a sponsoring company,
IIT Delhi official said in an official statement.

While
explaining the curriculum of the MINDS, IIT Delhi further said that the MINDS
programme will include advanced courses in basic AI technologies such as
in-depth learning and data mining, application-based courses such as computer
vision, natural language processing, and health care AI, and essentials. Mathematical
studies under modern AI technology.

This will be
the second ScAI degree as the school has already offered a PhD in Artificial
Intelligence.

“Our
PhD programme has gathered a lot of interest in its first year. We had a 90 pc
success rate in PhD students joining ScAI last semester, which is exceptional
for a young academic unit like ours, as students generally prefer more
established academic programmes. But they chose us, suggesting that we have put
together a really strong faculty team in AI,” said the founding head of
ScAI, Professor Mausam.

“Academic
institutions today cannot remain in silos. They must work closely with all
stakeholders, including industry, non-profit, and governmental organisations.
The M.Tech programme will energise academia-industry collaboration in AI,”
said IIT Delhi Director V Ramgopal Rao.
