Earlier this year, Indian golfer Anirban Lahiri came second in the Players Championship, falling just a little behind Australia’s Cameron Smith.
While the fixture held in March 2022 was Smith’s fifth golf win and second victory of the season, it was 34-year-old Lahiri’s second runner-up achievement after the Memorial Tournament held in 2017.
“I want to win. I’ve been here seven years; haven’t gotten over the line yet. That’s definitely a monkey I want to get off my back. Today was as good an opportunity as any,” said a sad Lahiri, who was hoping to be the second person from his country to win the championship, after Arjun Atwal.
“It’s huge, because when you go through such a lean period for such a long time, you start asking yourself, man, was that a flash in the pan? What are you doing? You haven’t played good in so long. Your belief takes a hit, so this for me is — I’m going to re-cement the foundation and work upwards from here,” he added, according to The Quint.
