On the occasion of the 73rd Republic Day, India honored leaders from the corporate world whose achievements have made a mark all around the world. The country presented its top civilian honors to the visionaries from the fields of technology to pioneers of the pharmaceutical industry.

Here’s a list of the Padma awardees from the corporate world:

Pichai Sundararajan (Padma Bhushan)

Born on June 10, 1972, Sundar Pichai is the CEO of the American tech giant Alphabet Inc. and its subsidiary company Google. He earned a degree in metallurgical engineering from IIT Kharagpur. He completed his MS in materials science and engineering from Stanford University and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. He was named a Siebel Scholar as well as Palmer Scholar. Before joining Google in 2004, he worked at McKinsey and Company for a short period.

Natarajan Chandrasekaran (Padma Bhushan – Business & Trade)

Chandrasekaran, the Chairman of the Board at the Tata Sons. Fondly called the Marathon Man, Chandrasekaran joined the Tata Consultancy Group and worked 30 years to rise to the top position in the business group. Currently, he holds the company and promoter of all Tata group companies.

He was appointed Chairman of Tata Sons in January 2017 after joining the board in October 2016. He is the board member of several group operating companies, including Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), where he served as CEO from 2009 to 2017.

Dr. Cyrus Poonawalla (Padma Bhushan)

Poonawalla is the Chairman of the Poonawalla Group and founder of India’s leading biotech firm Serum Institute of India (SII). It is the global leader in vaccine manufacturing in terms of doses produced and sold worldwide.

In 1966, Dr. Poonawalla established SII, and within two years, the company launched its first therapeutic anti-tetanus serum and began producing anti-tetanus vaccines. In 1974, it launched the DTP vaccine, which protects children against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis. In 1981, it launched an anti-snake-venom serum for snakebites.

Jagjit Singh Dardi (Padma Shri)

Dardi is the Editor-in-Chief of Chardikala and Chairman of Sri Guru Harkrishan Public Schools & Chardikala Time TV. He will be honored for his remarkable service in media, education, Punjabi language, culture, and heritage, promoting national integration and communal harmony.

He was a member of the Lok Sabha Press/Media Advisory Committee in 1997-98 and the Rajya Sabha Press/Media Advisory Committee in 2014. Since 1993, he has been a member of all prime ministers’ media delegations. He launched the Chardikala newspaper in 1970 and the Chardikala Time TV channel in 2007. He is also the Chairman of a chain of educational institutions in Patiala.

Satya Nadella (Padma Bhushan)

Satya Narayan Nadella was born in India on August 19, 2017. He is an Indian-American business executive and CEO of Microsoft. He joined Microsoft in 1992 and rose through the ranks to become the CEO. Before becoming CEO, he was executive vice president of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise group, he oversaw the transition to the cloud infrastructure and services business. Earlier, he served as vice president of the Microsoft Business Division and led R&D for the Online Services Division. Before joining Microsoft, he worked at Sun Microsystems as a member of its technical staff.

Krishna Ella and Suchitra Ella (Padma Bhushan)

Krishna and Suchitra Ella co-founded the Hyderabad-based biotechnology firm Bharat Biotech. The couple will receive Padma Bhushan for their contribution to the field of medicine. They are credited for developing Covaxin India’s first indigenous vaccine against COVID-19. Bharat Biotech has also produced vaccines against hepatitis, Zika virus, and swine flu.

Prahlad Rai Agarwal (Padma Shri)

Agarwal is the Chairman of Rupa’s & Co Ltd is a Kolkata-based hosiery company. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Calcutta. He has over 40 years of experience in the textile industry. In 2011, Asia Retail Congress honored him with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 7th Reed & Taylor Awards for Retail Excellence.
