India is celebrating its 73rd Republic Day on Wednesday. While India’s Independence Day celebrates its freedom from British rule, Republic Day celebrates the coming into force of its constitution.

On this occassion, the Border Security Force uploaded a video of a woman officer doing a one-minute push up challenge on their Twitter handle. “Girl Power – The New Strong One min push up challenge by Mahila recruit BSF training center Punjab, Hoshiarpur,” the video was captioned. 

In the video, we can see a woman doing pushups and other women recruits sitting at the back. From the time it was uploaded, the video garnered more than 1,500 views and over 200 likes. The officer’s fitness levels blew away many users, while others hailed the security forces on Republic Day.

While one Twitter user wrote, “I love my India I love my Indian army”, another wrote, “A true Indian, traveler and sports lover.” Another user tagging BSF retweeted, “Well Done”.

The main celebrations of the day are held in New Delhi’s Rajpath before the President and Prime Minister of India. Ceremonious parades take place at the Rajpath, which are performed as a tribute to India showcase India’s defence capability, cultural and social heritage. It is organised by the Ministry of Defence

As a part of Republic Day celebrations, the President of India distributes Padma Awards to the civilians every year and is categorized into the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri, in decreasing order of importance. The decorations comprise a sanad (Certificate) which is issued under the hand and seal of the President and a Medallion.

Today is a national holiday in India when the country marks and celebrates the date on which the Constitution of India came into effect on 26 January 1950 but initially it was adopted by the Indian Constituent Assembly on 26 November 1949.
