Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, will not join the Royal Family for Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations. 

A Buckingham Palace source told CNN that the 62-year-old has tested positive for COVID-19.

“After undertaking a routine test The Duke has tested positive for Covid and with regret will no longer be attending tomorrow’s service,” the royal source said.

“He has seen his mother in the last few days but has been undertaking regular testing and has not seen her since he tested positive,” the source added.

Andrew was stripped of his royal title and duties following the civil sexual assault lawsuit filed against him in the United States. He settled the suit out of court. He was linked late convicted pedophile and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. 

The Palace, ahead of the jublee, said that only working members of the royal family will join her on the balcony to watch a Royal Air Force fly-past after the traditional military review known as Trooping the Color.

“After careful consideration, the queen has decided this year’s traditional Trooping the Color balcony appearance on Thursday 2nd June will be limited to Her Majesty and those members of the royal family who are currently undertaking official public duties on behalf of the queen,” the palace said.

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who gave up their royal duties after moving to the US, attended the Queen’s birthday parade in London. It was their first joint public appearance with the royal family since parting ways. 

But the couple did not join the family on the balcony. They watched the Trooping the Colour event with other royals from the Major General’s office near Horse Guards parade, a spokesperson for the couple told CNN.

Celebrations honouring Queen Elizabeth II’s 70 years on the throne kicked off Thursday. The pomp and traditions will go on for four days.
