Every now and again, a film becomes so popular that it is automatically elevated to icon status. “The Devil Wears Prada”, the 2006 classic, is nothing, if not iconic.

When it first came out 15 years ago, the film was viewed as a coming-of-age drama for Andy, portrayed by Anne Hathaway, whose existence revolves around her employer Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep.

While it may appear on first viewing that Andy is the hero and Miranda is the villain, the extensive online discourse surrounding the film over the last few years has caused us to reexamine the film from other angles as the narrative about women in the workplace evolved drastically.

On the film’s 15-year anniversary, see these ‘groundbreaking’ quotes to channel your inner Miranda Priestly. That’s all.

“Tales of your incompetence do not interest me.”

This is one of “The Dragon Lady’s” first lines, and it effectively defines Streep’s character as a lady who has no time for anything less than gleaming perfection. Priestly mumbles the sentence almost inaudibly as she walks along the immaculate corridors of the fictional magazine Runway’s office with her assistant Emily (played hilariously by Emily Blunt).

“Did you fall down and smack your little head on the pavement?”

Miranda Priestly is unconcerned with the well-being of her employees and is just concerned with whether they are doing their tasks. They’re inept if they can’t execute their job properly, and they’ll be sacked without remorse.

“That’s all.”

This statement is repeated often by Priestly throughout the film in such a chilly and distant tone that it may send shivers down your spine (and cause your soul to ice up in the process).

“By all means, move at a glacial pace, you know how that thrills me.”

Miranda necessitates a fast-paced environment. Everything with Miranda needs to be delivered fifteen minutes early than the time she says she wants it by. When you’re with the Snow Queen, you must move at the speed of The Flash.

“Florals…for spring? Groundbreaking.”

Miranda will not hesitate to tell you if you have simple ideas that lack creative vision or uniqueness. For the deadpan delivery Streep provides here, her sarcasm merits accolades, which is why this quote is so famous.
