Nominations for the 65th Grammy Awards will be made by the Recording Academy on Tuesday. Five more categories have been added this year.

The new categories include songwriter of the year and a special song for social change award. The songwriter award has been included to honor music’s best composer.

Another new inclusion – the non-classical songwriter category will recognize one individual who was the “most prolific” non-performing and non-producing songwriter. It will not be the same as the song of the year, which awards the songwriters who wrote the lyrics to a song.

The nominations for this year will be made live beginning at noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on the official website for the Grammys, https://live.grammy.com/.  It will also be featured on the Recording Academy’s Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok channels. The full list of 2023 GRAMMYs nominees will be published on live.GRAMMY.com and GRAMMY.com immediately following the presentation.

Among the celebrities announcing the nominees this year will be Olivia Rodrigo, John Legend, Machine Gun Kelly, and Smokey Robinson.

Some of the possible names for nominations this year include Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Harry Styles, and Adele. Among the other hopefuls are Lizzo and Steve Lacy, both of whom had two of the biggest songs this year.

The Grammy Award ceremony is going to be held on February 5 in Los Angeles.

Last year, an update in the rules allowed any songwriter, producer, engineer, or featured artist on an album nominated for album of the year to earn a nomination. So the fact that a whole new category for songwriters has been announced is a huge step in the right direction.

The four other categories include best-spoken word poetry album, alternative music performance, Americana music performance, score soundtrack for video games, and other interactive media.
