The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted its 2022 class in grand style on Saturday night (November 6, 2022). Dolly Parton, Eminem, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Duran Duran, Eurythmics, Lionel Richie, and Carly Simon were among those inducted. Judas Priest and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis were also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the “award for musical excellence.”

Following Parton’s induction on Wednesday, the veteran country singer told Billboard that while she had reservations about accepting the honour, she now feels “great” about it. “I feel honoured that everyone who voted for me did so. And I appreciate the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame people for sticking by me,” Parton said in an interview published Wednesday. “I never intended to cause any controversy or trouble.”

“It was just always my belief — and I think millions of other people out there too — always thought the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was just set up for the greatest people in the rock ‘n’ roll business, and I just didn’t feel like I really measured up to that and I don’t want to take anything away from the people that have worked so hard.”, she continued.

P!nk had the honour of inducting Parton. She delivered a powerful speech in which she referred to the evening as “one of the most magical nights I’ve witnessed in my history of being in music.”

P!nk continued, “[Dolly is] one of the greatest storytellers of our time… of all time.” As Parton walked on stage to accept her award, she and P!nk, who were both decked out in sparkles, exchanged a warm embrace before Parton joked, “I’m a rock star now!”

Parton teased her upcoming rock album and even performed an unreleased new rock song in her own speech… “I still got rock and roll down in my country soul,” she declares emphatically.

Parton asked to be removed from the Hall of Fame ballot for 2022 in a social media statement in March, saying she didn’t feel she “earned the right.”

The Grammy-winning singer was among the nominees, which also included Eminem, Beck, Duran Duran, A Tribe Called Quest, and Lionel Richie.

A Country Music Hall of Fame artist being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is not unheard of. Brenda Lee, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Chet Atkins, Hank Williams, and The Everly Brothers are among the artists who have performed at both prestigious clubs.
