Singer Katy Perry’s fifth major-label album ‘Smile’ is set to be released on Friday while the 35-year-old, who is engaged to actor Orlando Bloom, is expecting a baby girl.

Regarding her new album, Perry told AP, “It’s a record full of hopefulness and resilience and a little bit of joy and some fun. …I think that it’s always a good time to have a little hope injected, especially these days. This record is really talking about my own experience in walking through hell and finding the light and coming out of that.”

Her 2010 album ‘Teenage Dream’ had matched the record Michael Jackson’s ‘Bad’ set for most No. 1 singles from an album.  On the 10-year anniversary of her hit album she said, “Every record has a special meaning for me. And I try and always approach writing music from a super vulnerable, authentic open-book place, so that whoever wants to relate to it can. I think “Teenage Dream,” it really encapsulated this fantastical view of love. It was nostalgic in some ways.”

She added, “It was a special moment and I can’t believe 10 years has passed. I’m kind of happy that “Smile” is coming out around the same time. It’s like, “All right, let’s dip into that energy.”

Perry finds it funny for anyone to make wedding plans during the pandemic.  She says, “We have ideas but anyone that makes plans in 2020 is just a little LOL. There’s bigger things going on in the world. I don’t want to say, “Oh, how sad is it that I had to postpone or cancel or whatever.” It’s so many other horrible things going on. What we’re hoping for is just a safe, healthy baby. That’s the next thing on the calendar that we can look forward to.”
