Batman is one of the most recognizable superheroes in the world, and the legions of fans of the Dark Knight gather each year to make it a point to celebrate his first-ever appearance in DC comics on the third Saturday of every September, which is also known as Batman Day. This year, Batman Day is on September 17.

The Caped Crusader’s first appearance was made in 1939 in Detective Comics #27 in a story titled The Case of the Chemical Syndicate.

Batman Day history

Batman Day was first celebrated on July 23, 2014 by DC. The date was chosen to clash with that year’s San Diego Comic-Con and to celebrate the character’s 75th year of existence. DC Entertainment, Warner Brothers, and DC Comics chose to celebrate Batman Day after celebrating the first-ever Superman Day on June 12, 2013. The day was chosen to mark the release of Man of Steel, in which Henry Cavill debuted as the Kryptonian superhero.
