Salma Hayek, known for roles in Once Upon a Time in Mexico, and Annie Murphy, of Schitt’s Creek fame, are in talks to star in Black Mirror Season 6, Variety reported.

The dystopian Netflix series has already amassed an impressive cast for the upcoming season including Zazie Beetz, Paapa Essiedu, Josh Hartnett, Aaron Paul, Kate Mara, Danny Ramirez, Clara Rugaard, Auden Thornton and Anjana Vasan. Deadline also reported the joining of Rory Culkin of Under the Banner of Heaven fame.

Hayek, 55, was recently seen in Angelina Jolie’s movie Without Blood and appears in Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike’s Last Dance. She was seen in Eternals and Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci last. The actor has also tried her hand at production and her series Santa Evita aired on Disney’s Star in July 2022.

Murphy starred in the new season of Russian Doll and is on AMC’s Kevin Can F*** Himself. The news that Black Mirror Season 6 is underway was first reported in May, but details about the stories have been scant.

The upcoming season promises to have more episodes than Season 5, which only had three instalments starring Andrew Scott, Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Topher Grace and Miley Cyrus.

Black Mirror Season 6 is the first outing since June 2019, when the last episode aired. Since then, show creator Charlie Brooker and his creative partner Annabel Jones set up shop under their new production banner and struck a deal with Netflix. Black Mirror initially aired on Channel 4, for two seasons, before moving to the streaming platform.

Thus far, Black Mirror has done well for Netflix, even giving rise to a spinoff movie, Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, which was the streaming platform’s foray into interactive entertainment, and starred Will Poulter as a game developer who gets stuck while designing a game, and eventually loses himself in the labyrinth of his mind.
