The latest installment of the Captain America franchise has a release date, May 3, 2024. Marvel Studios President, Kevin Fiege took to the stage of the Marvel panel at Hall H at the 2022 San Diego Comic Con to announce that by the end of the year, Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was coming to a close.

This month hasn’t been all bad for Marvel fans, as the superhero film franchise has found itself a new director, Julius Onah, of ‘Cloverfield Paradox’ fame. Not just that, but Captain America: New World Order will be part of the MCU’s Phase 5, which will be kicked off ‘Antman and the Wasp: Quantamania’ and conclude with the “Thunderbolts” movie.

Anthony Mackie, who played The Falcon in Phase 3 of the MCU before coming into his own as Captain America in the final episode of the Disney+ series, ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ will be reprising the role. The show’s writers, Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson will be writing for the new film as well.

While fans of the film series are eager to see Chris Evans reprise his role, the star has been clear that Mackie is now the one leading the franchise, to the displeasure of some rabid fans.

However, ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’ did well with Disney+ audiences as the show tackled issues of racial injustice, coming to terms with a changing world, and accepting responsibility as the story unfolded. Critics were quick to praise Mackie for his performance as Sam Wilson as the character went through personal growth before finally accepting the legacy of Captain America’s shield.

This time around will be Mackie’s first feature length film appearance as Captain America since he took on the mantle of the star-spangled superhero. While there aren’t any details about what the film covers, people expect that the new film will adapt Nick Spencer’s Captain America Run.
