The Comerica
Park, Detroit, has undergone a massive transformation from a ballpark to a
music venue, ahead of two high profile concerts, the first in the city after a
period of 19 months.

About 350
crew members were working on readying the stage ahead of tour stops by Guns N’
Roses and the Hella Mega Tour with Green Day, Weezer and Fall Out Boy. The
former make an appearance on Sunday whereas the latter hit the stage on
Tuesday, the Detroit Free Press reported.

The two shows
in the Detroit Tigers‘ home ground are part of a swarm of concerts hitting
venues across the region. The Guns N’ Roses concert will be the first in the
city since the Garth Brooks concert in February last year.

There is at
least one more stadium concert on the cards here this year: The Rolling Stones
are scheduled for Ford Field in November — likely without the services of
Charlie Watts, who is recovering from an unspecified medical procedure. The
band’s No Filter Tour will feature drummer Steve Jordan as his sub.

The
concerts are being held just as the news of the fully vaccinated American
crossing the 50% mark
came on Friday. On the other hand, the country reported
100,000 COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, a six-month high. Seven states with the
lowest vaccination rates – Florida, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana,
Alabama and Mississippi – account for half of the country’s new cases and
hospitalizations in the last week, White House COVID-19 coordinator Jeff Zients
told reporters on Thursday.

The
seven-day average of daily cases in the US reached nearly 95,000, a five-fold
increase in less than a month, Reuters data on Wednesday showed.
