Eileen Saki, actor best known for playing bar owner Rosie on M*A*S*H, died on Monday in Los Angeles. Her death was confirmed by M*A*S*H co-star Jeff Maxwell during his podcast about the program. A facebook post on official M*A*S*H Matters page read, “Our sweet Eileen. Our sassy Rosie.”

“On behalf of her husband Bob, we extend sincere appreciation for the hundreds of M*A*S*H fans who filled Eileen’s final days with peace, encouragement, and love. She read every email and responded to as many as she could,” it added.

Cause of death

Eileen Saki died of pancreatic cancer in Los Angeles. She was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in January this year, according to a report by People. Saki was a lung cancer survivor in 2004.

Eileen Saki was born on November 18, 1943 in Japan. She was 79.

Husband

Eileen Saki is survived by her husband Bob Borgen. He is a producer known for The Way It Was (1974), Prime Ticket: Los Angeles Kings Hockey (1985) and Buster Keaton: A Hard Act to Follow (1987).

Career

Eileen was a Japanese-American actor. She had a decades long career that included roles in Policewomen (1974) and Meteor (1979). She appeared in nine episodes of M*A*S*H between 1976 and 1981. Eileen played the role of Rosie, the owner of Rosie’s Bar, where servicemen congregated to unwind and she gave counsel for a price.

Later, she worked in commercials for everything from Shark Week to Uber Eats. In February 2022, Saki featured on a podcast M*A*S*H Matters with Jeff Maxwell, who played Private Igor in M*A*S*H and mega fan Ryan Patrick.

Eileen played Dr Fujimoto in the 1984 movie Splash, with Tom Hanks. She also worked in CHiPS and History of the World: Part 1. Most recently, Eileen appeared in a 2022 Uber Eats advertisement.
