An image of US actor Tom Hanks sporting an anti-Trump t-shirt has gone viral on social media. Hanks can be seen in the original photo, which was released by publications in August 2022, sporting a simple navy t-shirt. However, in the digitally altered version, Hanks’s t-shirt contains the phrase, ‘Keep America Trumpless’.

Nevertheless, has now been established that the image is fake. Many people chose to believe this fake image because Hanks has not kept his ideas about politics a secret, and is generally very vocal about them.

When a recording of Donald Trump’s obscene remarks about groping women was made public, he came out against Trump and endorsed Barack Obama for president. He is also one of the celebrities working in former First Lady Michelle Obama’s voter registration effort.

In 2019, a previous soccer-related selfie tweet from Hanks escalated into a viral image with left-leaning phrases. On Facebook, it was shared more than 15,000 times, and Pinterest users saved it endlessly. The phrases include “Science Is Real,” “Black Lives Matter,” “No Human Is Illegal,” “Love Is Love,” “Women’s Rights Are Human Rights,” and “Kindness Is Everything.”

However, in reality, Hanks took the photo of himself in 2015 to promote the American women’s football team before their World Cup Final match against Germany. The real selfie shows him wearing a national team jersey, which Hanks shared on Twitter and Facebook.

Similar to this, Tom Hanks was purportedly seen in 2018 sporting a t-shirt proclaiming “I was going to be a Trump voter for Halloween but my head wouldn’t fit up my ass”, showing opposition to Trump. However, Hanks was actually wearing a pretty unassuming white t-shirt when he was photographed, similar to the earlier instance of shirt manipulation.
