It is a great irony that in a year where much of the world was trapped inside, there were so few major movies to keep us somewhat distracted during the ongoing pandemic. The coronavirus pandemic halted the release and production of most films throughout 2020, delaying filming and the movie release dates.

Some of the movies did get released on steaming sites like Netflix or Hotstar and we combed through a vast array ofmovies on these sites that we may never have seen. But nothing like a big budget Bollywood movie.

With a hope that it is not the case in 2021, here is a list of movies to look forward to in the coming year:

1. Sardar Udham Singh (January 15)

Directed by acclaimed director Shoojit Sircar, this movie is based on the life of one of the most iconic revolutionaries in the Indian freedom struggle, Udham Singh. Vicky Kaushal will essay his persona on the big screen. Though not the first time that a revolutionary has been a centre of the film, its the direction of Sircar that excites the most.

2.   Radhe (May 12)

Directed by Prabhu Deva who directed its prequel, this movie s is music to the ears of all Salman Khan fans. Bhai is coming back with Radhe. It is a sequel to his 2009 movie Wanted. He plays an undercover cop on a manhunt

Stars Salman Khan, Disha Patani, Jackie Shroff and others.

3. Maidan (August 2021)

A sports drama directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, stars Ajay Devgn essaying the role of Syed Abdul Rahim known as the architect of modern Indian football. The film is based on the golden era of Indian football, described from 1952 to 1962.

Initially slated to release on December 11 in 2020, it will now release with a delay due to the pandemic on August 13,2020.

4. 83 (somewhere in 2021)

Directed by Kabir Khan, 83 traces the journey of a team that was counted out even before the tournament started. How they managed to defy all odds and every expectation to bring home India’s first Cricket World Cup trophy forms the crux of the story.

The movie stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Ammy Virk, Tahir Raj Bhasin and many more in a star studded line-up, playing characters for that legendary team of 1983.

5. Takht (December 2021)

Directed by Karan Johar, this movie brings to fore the story of succession, of a throne and its contenders. 

Two brothers fight it out till death for their father’s throne, who lies ill. Two very different characters and history hinges on the outcome of the battle. Who will sit on the ‘Takht’ of India?

The movie stars Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal,Kareena Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and so many others in a star studded, typical Karan Johar, cast.
