Rapper Lola Chantrelle Mitchell, popularly known as Gangsta Boo, was found dead on Sunday afternoon, at the age of 43.

Three 6 Mafia founder D J Paul wrote about her demise with a picture of hers on Instagram. Rapper Lil Jon commented, “MAN WE WAS JUS TOGETHER 3 WEEKS AGO. REST WELL QUEEN”.

Sources close to the rapper told TMZ her cause of death was drug-related. However, an autopsy is pending and no official cause of death has been revealed.  

Mitchell started out as a poet in Memphis, Tennessee before she became Gangsta Boo. She began writing poetry at an early age and gave her poems to her father, who saw her love for lyricism and bought her a keyboard and a karaoke machine. The gift ended up changing Mitchell’s life, and she went on to become a pioneer for female rappers.

Gangster Boo’s first solo album was Enquiring Minds, released in 1998. The album contained the super hit solo song Where Dem Dollas At!? The album’s success propelled her career in the rapper circles although she had made a name for herself right from the mid-90s. Her second album was Both Worlds * 69 in 2001. Her third and final solo album was Enquiring Minds 2: The soap opera, released in 2003.
