Comedian Gilbert Gottfried died on Tuesday after a “long illness,” his family said in a statement. Following his death, a photo of him with Bob Saget and Louie Anderson went viral on social media, with people saying that it “feels like a generational loss.”

Gilbert Gottfried died from a heart abnormality called Recurrent Ventricular Tachycardia at the age of 67. 

“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved Gilbert Gottfried after a long illness. In addition to being the most iconic voice in comedy, Gilbert was a wonderful husband, brother, friend and father to his two young children. Although today is a sad day for all of us, please keep laughing as loud as possible in Gilbert’s honor,” his family wrote in a statement.

Soon after the news of his death was out, a photo of him with late comedians Bob Saget and Louie Anderson went viral on social media. 

Gottfried had shared the photo in January to pay tribute to the comedians.

“This photo is very sad now. RIP Bob Saget and RIP Louie Anderson. Both good friends that will be missed,” he had captioned the photo.

Resharing the picture, one person wrote, “Comedian Deaths In 2022: First Bob Saget, then Louie Anderson, & now Gilbert Gottfried. They gave us a much-needed thing in life: Laughter.”

“I can’t believe this. Gilbert Gottfried is gone. Rest in peace funny man. This picture with Bob Saget and Louie Anderson was only taken 3 months ago. Now he is in the Great Comedy Club in the beyond with all his friends,” another person wrote. 

“This year has been really hard for Comedy. We lose Bob Saget, Louie Anderson, and now Gilbert Gottfried. All of them will be missed,” another person tweeted.

For those unversed, Bob Saget died on January 9 while Louie Anderson died on the 21st of the same month.
